The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM) has made changes to the regulation regarding the rights of passengers traveling by air, which will require airlines that experience delays to compensate their passengers.
The amendment to Article 3, paragraph (a) of the Regulation on the Rights of Passengers Traveling by Air (SHY-PASSENGER) of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM) has been published in the Official Gazette.
THE COMPANY WILL PAY COMPENSATION
According to the published amendment, if flights are delayed for technical and operational reasons and the passenger is not delivered to the planned final destination within 3 hours or more, the airline company will pay the specified fees to the passenger.
Accordingly, the compensation amounts have been determined as follows: 100 Euros for domestic flights, 250 Euros for all international flights of 1,500 kilometers or shorter, 400 Euros for flights between 1,500 and 3,500 kilometers, and 600 Euros for flights longer than 3,500 kilometers.
When calculating the equivalent of these compensation claims in Turkish Lira, the foreign exchange selling rate of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey on the day the compensation is paid will be taken as the basis.
