A new incident of rising Islamophobic actions in Europe has occurred recently. In the city of Villeurbanne, France, a person set fire to the Quran at a mosque before the morning prayer and then fled the scene.
A person entered a mosque in the city of Villeurbanne, located in the Rhone department of France, and fled after burning a copy of the Quran.
BURNED QURAN IN THE MOSQUE
In a written statement from the Rhone Mosques Council (CMR), it was stated that the Errahma Mosque in the city was targeted in an Islamophobic act on June 2. The statement reported that a person entered the mosque and burned a copy of the Quran around 03:45 local time, 20 minutes before the morning prayer.
"PART OF A SERIES OF HATE-BASED ATTACKS"
The statement noted that the individual left the burned Quran in front of the mosque and fled, emphasizing, "This despicable act is part of a series of hate-based attacks. This act clearly demonstrates the alarming and increasingly hostile environment towards Muslim citizens in France."
IDENTITY OF THE PERPETRATOR UNKNOWN
The statement condemned this disrespectful act towards the Quran and called on the relevant authorities to identify the perpetrator and initiate legal proceedings against them.
