A railway worker in the Indian state of Bihar lost his life in a tragic accident during a train shunting operation. The incident occurred at Barauni Station, where 25-year-old Amar Kumar was crushed between the locomotive and the buffers of a wagon. The accident happened on Saturday morning during the shunting operation of the Lucknow Junction-Barauni Express at platform number 5. Buffers are impact-absorbing systems used to reduce the collision effect between wagons on trains. The family of the deceased worker claimed that the accident occurred due to staff negligence and stated that they would not allow an autopsy until action was taken against those responsible. Tensions eased with the arrival of the Railway Divisional Manager at the scene. Officials from the East Central Railway indicated that shunting rules may have been violated and initiated a high-level investigation. It was announced that strict measures would be taken against any personnel found negligent as a result of the investigation. As images of the deceased worker circulated on social media, the incident reignited discussions about railway safety in India.
