139 THOUSAND LIRA FINE IMPOSED ON THE RESTAURANT
It was determined that the prices of approximately 30 items on the menu were different from the amounts charged. After the investigation, a fine of 139,304 TL was imposed on the restaurant.
STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY
Bekir Kaplan, the Press Advisor of the Ministry of Trade, made a statement regarding the issue: "An investigation has been conducted by our Ministry of Trade regarding the claims of high bills charged to tourist customers at a fish restaurant in Istanbul, following news in the press.
During the inspection, the price list and invoices of the business were examined; violations of regulations in the application of service charges and misleading practices towards consumers were identified. Additionally, as a result of the examination of price tags for compliance with regulations, discrepancies were also identified, and an administrative sanction of 139,304.00 TL was imposed for the relevant products.
Furthermore, the identified price discrepancies and practices have been reported to the Unfair Price Increase Board. Additionally, due to findings indicating that overcharging occurred, the matter has been referred to the relevant institutions. As the Ministry of Trade, our inspections continue uninterruptedly to protect the rights of both domestic and foreign consumers and to ensure market order and a fair trade environment."
