A fire broke out after one of the fireworks set off by a family coming to ask for a girl's hand in Beyoğlu hit a house. Eight people, including four children, who were affected by the smoke and trapped inside, were taken to the hospital. The moments when the fireworks were set off were captured on camera.
FIREWORKS HIT THE HOUSE
The fire occurred around 8:30 PM on Mermer Street in the Çukur neighborhood of Beyoğlu. According to the information obtained, the male side who came to ask for the girl's hand walked down the street while setting off fireworks. A fire broke out when one of the fireworks hit a house on the street. In the resulting fire, a total of 8 people, including 4 children, were trapped in the building. Upon notification from nearby citizens, police, medical teams, and numerous fire crews were dispatched to the area.
8 PEOPLE TAKEN TO HOSPITAL
Neighbors provided the first intervention to those trapped. Firefighters rescued the 8 people trapped and handed them over to medical teams. Eight people, including four children, who were affected by the smoke and trapped, were taken to the hospital after the first intervention. The fire was brought under control after an hour of work by the fire crews, preventing it from spreading to other houses.
Neighborhood resident Yakup Akbaba said, "They came to ask for a girl's hand and set off fireworks. One of the fireworks hit the building. We saw the house was on fire and immediately ran. We rescued those in 2 apartments. We tied our faces and went upstairs with friends. Then the fire department came and rescued those inside," he said.
