In a horrific accident in England, a truck driver failed to notice the traffic in front of him while watching porn on his phone and caused the death of a man who was a father of two.
The incident occurred on May 17, 2023, on the M58 motorway in Lancashire. The 43-year-old truck driver, Neil Platt, was engrossed in his phone. He did not see the vehicles in front of him while looking at pictures of naked women on the social media app X.
The truck driven by Platt crashed into the Hyundai Kona of 46-year-old Danny Aitchison, who was waiting in traffic. Aitchison's vehicle became wedged behind a tanker due to the impact and caught fire instantly. The unfortunate man died at the scene.
According to information revealed in court, Platt frequently checked his phone during the three-hour journey, spending time on apps like X, TikTok, and YouTube.
Judge Ian Unsworth sentenced Platt to 10 years in prison and stated:
"The selfish and irresponsible behavior you exhibited while on the road is incomprehensible. This was not just a brief glance; you diverted your attention from the road for miles. You were essentially a death machine weighing tons."
This accident, which cost the life of Danny Aitchison, a father of two from Liverpool, led to driver Platt previously admitting his guilt.
