In the Vologda region, located in northern Russia, an ordinary day turned into an unexpected medical case. A middle-aged female patient, whose identity is kept confidential, presented to the emergency department of the regional hospital due to unbearable abdominal pain. What initially seemed like a routine case of abdominal pain transformed into an interesting case that would enter the medical literature as a result of the examinations conducted. After her visit to the emergency department, the patient was immediately examined and reported not only severe abdominal pain but also nausea and difficulty swallowing. The healthcare team, taking the patient's complaints seriously, initiated a comprehensive examination process to clarify the situation. Unexpectedly, the X-ray films revealed a surprising image: a 20-centimeter metal spoon was detected in the patient's stomach. The experienced surgeon Dr. Dmitry Vankov, who managed the case, immediately took action upon realizing the seriousness of the situation. In a statement regarding the matter, he said: "The X-ray results surprised us quite a bit. We performed an esophagogastroduodenoscopy on the patient without wasting any time. The detailed examination we conducted using a video endoscope allowed us to confirm our diagnosis. We managed to catch the spoon with a specially designed ring and safely remove it through the esophagus." It was reported that the patient's health status was good, and the post-operative process progressed smoothly. Hospital officials emphasized that such cases are rare and that medical assistance should be sought without delay in cases of foreign body ingestion. The case was recorded as one of the most interesting events in the history of the regional hospital. Due to the intense interest shown by the local media, the hospital management refrained from sharing further details to protect the patient's privacy. However, this unusual case resonated greatly in the medical world and once again highlighted the importance of early diagnosis in similar cases. Experts reminded that early intervention is vital, especially in cases of foreign body ingestion, and that complications that may arise in such situations can only be prevented with prompt medical intervention.
