In the ongoing clashes between Druze and Bedouin Arab tribes in Syria's Suwayda province, Israel-backed Druze forces attacked the Syrian army, resulting in the deaths of 6 soldiers. At least 30 people have lost their lives in the conflicts, while the Syrian government has decided to deploy military reinforcements to the region.
A source from the Syrian Ministry of Defense, who provided information to the state-owned Syrian News Channel, reported that a military deployment was made to the region to end the conflicts between groups in Suwayda, but that Druze forces attacked army units, killing 6 soldiers and taking 9 soldiers hostage.
CONFLICTS CONTINUE
Interior Ministry Spokesman Nureddin al-Baba stated in an interview with the Syrian News Channel that they are responding to the calls for help from the people of Suwayda and are coordinating with the effective parties in the province. Baba said, "A security deployment plan has been prepared by the ministries of defense and interior, and the purpose of this plan is to establish the authority of the state and the rule of law and to disarm illegal armed groups." The conflicts continue in the Kenaker town in the southern rural area of the province and in the western rural area.
DRUZES ARE NOT ALLOWING THE MILITARY TO ENTER THE REGION
Meanwhile, one of the prominent leaders of the Druze, Hicri, made a written statement regarding the developments, saying that they would not allow the Syrian army and security forces to enter the region. Hicri accused the Syrian administration of providing military support to Bedouin tribes and called for "urgent international protection." At the time Hicri made his statement, Israeli warplanes were seen flying along the Quneitra-Suwayda-Daraa line in southern Syria.
ISRAEL IS INSTIGATING
The Israeli government had promised military and political support to the Druze minority against the Syrian regime in order to disrupt the integration efforts of the Druze region with the country after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria.
Small-scale armed clashes began after Druze groups seized some vehicles belonging to Bedouin Arab tribes in Suwayda early yesterday morning. As the parties mutually kidnapped and detained some civilians, the clashes intensified, resulting in at least 30 deaths and 100 injuries in total.
