In the Kartalkaya fire trial, in response to the question of the Chief Judge, "Was the alarm system off?", the witness replied, "They talked about the alarms not working on the floors after the fire."
The first hearing of the fire disaster at Bolu Grand Kartal Hotel, where 78 people lost their lives and 133 were injured, is ongoing. On the 8th day of the trial, where 32 defendants, 19 of whom are detained, are being tried, the testimonies of the complainants and witnesses continued.
SHOCKING TRUTH REVEALED
The discussions regarding whether the hotel's alarms were working became a topic of debate in the court. After the Chief Judge's questions on the matter, the facts also came to light.
RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION 'DID YOU HEAR THE ALARM SOUND?'
According to journalist Emrullah Erdinç, witness Görkem Ustaoğlu recounted his experiences: "I started working at Gazelle Hotel on September 1, and I moved to Grand Kartal on December 9. On the day of the incident, I was staying in room 2001 on the second floor.
We were sitting at around 02:00 AM. At about 03:00 AM, Buğra Özbelli came in through the door and said, 'There is a fire, get outside!' We immediately went out, but there was nothing on the second floor. We started to go up the staff stairs. There were about 20-24 people in the corridor. As we were going up towards the third floor, we were hit by heavy smoke just 1-2 meters away. All the staff were with me. The ski instructors and receptionists were also with us.
After that, we went down to the ski room. A child opened the door there. As soon as we stepped outside, we heard the restaurant floor explode. It was around 03:20 AM. Sparks were flying. Then we immediately went to the front of the hotel."
Ustaoğlu also answered the Chief Judge's question, "Did you hear the alarm sound?" with "No."
"THEY TALKED ABOUT THE ALARM NOT WORKING"
Witness Ustaoğlu also answered other questions from the Chief Judge. In response to the question, "Was the alarm system off?", Ustaoğlu said, "They talked about the alarms not working on the floors after the fire."
