The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry continues to expose companies that endanger public health with the 'List of Imitated or Adulterated Foods' it started publishing on October 2, 2024. In the lists published so far, it has been revealed that offal and single-toed animals were used in meat products, seed oils were mixed with olive oils, and many companies used products aimed at deceiving consumers in items like milk and cheese, while the Food Bulletin prepared a map of food fraud in Turkey.
WHAT HAVE THEY SOLD UNDER THE NAME OF OLIVE OIL?
The distribution of these businesses by city was included in the map. So far, 1,187 food items have been included in the list shared by the ministry. With 421 violations, olive oil ranked first among the adulterated foods. It was noted that a significant amount of seed oil (sunflower, cotton, safflower, canola, flaxseed, sesame, etc.) was mixed with olive oils.
THE LEAD HAS SHIFTED FROM ADANA TO AYDIN
With the new list, the leading city has also changed. Due to the impact of olive oil, Aydın ranked first among the cities with the most food fraud in Turkey. Following Aydın, which had 172 adulterated products, came Istanbul, Izmir, and Bursa.
THERE ARE 144 BRANDS ON THE LIST
It has been recorded that a total of 144 brands in Aydın mixed seed oil with olive oils sold under names such as natural extra virgin, cold-pressed, early harvest, and stone-pressed.
