The Ministry of Interior announced that it has appointed trustees to the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, Batman Municipality, and Halfeti Municipality of Şanlıurfa, which is managed by the DEM Party. Mardin Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Türk, Halfeti Mayor Mehmet Karayılan, and Batman Mayor Gülistan Sönük have been removed from their positions.

Following this bombshell development, a strong statement came from the DEM Party, which has drawn attention. The statement included the following remarks: "The AKP-MHP government has seized the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, Batman Municipality, and Urfa Halfeti Municipality this morning, after Hakkari and Esenyurt."

ATTENTION WAS DRAWN TO THE TIMING

It is significant that this coup occurred on the anniversary of the parliamentary coup against the will of the Kurdish people on November 4, 2016. This is a 30-year-old repetition of failed attacks aimed at eliminating the Kurdish people from democratic politics, which has been ongoing since 1994.

Let us reiterate that this attack is an open coup against the will of the people. Previous trustee coups have been rejected by the public, the practice of trustees has suffered a major defeat in elections, and the people have used their will in favor of our party. Insisting on a trustee coup that has been defeated in every election is a sign of political exhaustion. The AKP-MHP government has turned the habit of seizing power through the judiciary and law enforcement into a regime. This attack is also a significant assault on the right of the Kurdish people to vote and be elected. The blockade of local governments, where the public has direct participation, and their transformation into quasi-police stations is a clear declaration that the democratic legitimacy of the current political regime has ended.

"THEY WILL LOSE EVEN MORE"

It is a striking situation that those who claim to fight against tutelage and coups have themselves turned into pure coup plotters. No power has ever thrived through tyranny and oppression in these lands, nor will it. The peoples of Turkey will never bow to this tyranny. In the last local elections, the government suffered a significant loss due to these practices, and as long as it insists on this method, it will lose even more.

"EVERYONE MUST RAISE THEIR VOICE"

The trustee coup is a matter of democracy and freedom for 85 million people, and if it is not stopped, it will not be limited to just Kurdish provinces or the municipalities that have been seized so far. Regardless of which party or ideology they belong to, this coup is now an open threat to the voting and electoral rights of all the people of Turkey. On this occasion, we call on the entire democratic public: Everyone must raise their voice and objections to this illegitimate coup mentality at the highest level.

"WE WILL NEVER BOW"

Defending the will of the people under all circumstances and standing by the local governments of the people is the reason for our party's existence. These methods and attacks have poisoned all kinds of search for solutions and approaches, and have raised even greater doubts about the sincerity of the government. While we expect a hand to be extended for a solution and peace, a hand has been extended against the will of the people. While we expect problems to be solved through dialogue and negotiation, traps have been set against the people's expectations for solutions. We will never bow, and we will never back down from the struggle. If the government thinks it will succeed with these failed methods, it will be greatly mistaken. Our people will also stand by their will under all circumstances.
