The Disinformation Combat Center made a statement regarding the news in the press that "They have been living with 'stateless' documents in Hakkari for 40 years." In the statement, it was said, "Since the relevant individuals have not made any official applications regarding Turkish citizenship, no process has been carried out concerning citizenship. Only applications regarding stateless person status have been made and concluded."
It was claimed that Kudret Akarsu, who migrated to the Yüksekova district of Hakkari with his wife 40 years ago from the city of Urmia in Iran, and their 2 children are living with the "Stateless Person Identity Document" provided to them by the Provincial Migration Administration.

Following the publication of these claims in the media, a statement was made by the Communication Presidency's Disinformation Combat Center (DDM).
In the statement, it was said, "Since the relevant individuals have not made any official applications regarding Turkish citizenship, no process has been carried out regarding citizenship. They have only made applications regarding stateless person status, which have been concluded."

"Some media outlets and social media posts contain disinformation regarding claims that a family living in Hakkari has been 'left stateless.'
Since the relevant individuals have not made any official applications regarding Turkish citizenship, no process has been carried out regarding citizenship. They have only made applications regarding stateless person status, which have been concluded. Thus, they have gained legal status in Turkey. They have also been informed about applications for citizenship and other matters.
The public is requested to be sensitive and cautious against disinformation-containing posts."
