After the Iranian drones caused damage around the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Airport and injured 4 people, 3 planes carrying passengers wishing to travel from Azerbaijan's capital Baku to Nakhchivan landed at Iğdır Şehit Bülent Aydın Airport.
Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) directed three planes carrying passengers traveling from Baku to Nakhchivan to Iğdır Şehit Bülent Aydın Airport for security reasons.
Azerbaijani passengers were welcomed at the airport with flowers by AK Party Iğdır Deputy Cantürk Alagöz, Azerbaijan's Consul General in Kars Zamin Aliyev, Iğdır University Rector Prof. Dr. Ekrem Gürel, AK Party Provincial Chairman Ali Kemal Ayaz, and Iğdır Şehit Bülent Aydın Airport Director Fikret Bağca.
"LONG LIVE TURKEY-AZERBAIJAN BROTHERHOOD"
Azerbaijani passengers arriving in Iğdır expressed their gratitude to the officials who welcomed them with flowers, stating, "Long live Turkey–Azerbaijan brotherhood. We are very happy to be welcomed like this. We landed in Iğdır, and from here we will go to Nakhchivan by road."
THEY WILL CROSS BY ROAD
According to information received from officials, until Nakhchivan Airport becomes operational again, flights from Baku to Nakhchivan will be redirected to Iğdır Airport. Passengers will proceed to Nakhchivan by road from here.
Iğdır Deputy Alagöz expressed his sadness over the drone attack in a statement at the airport, saying: "We send our best wishes to the citizens there. I wish a speedy recovery to our injured. We do not want the current events in the region to escalate. Of course, the events happening right next to us also affect us. Due to the incident at Nakhchivan Airport, the airport has been temporarily closed to flights. For security reasons, flights from Baku to Nakhchivan will be conducted via Iğdır from now on. We will be happy to see our Azerbaijani brothers from Nakhchivan here."
AN IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT
Alagöz also stated that it is an important development for Iğdır Şehit Bülent Aydın Airport to serve its first international flight, emphasizing that the conversion of the airport into a customs area and the opening of flights are of great importance in this process.
