Following the missile fired from Iran landing in Turkey, NATO made a notable statement. The statement said, "In addition to the successful interception of a ballistic missile targeting Turkey from Iran by NATO, ballistic missile defense measures across the alliance have been increased. We condemn Iran's targeting of Turkey once again."
The European Allied Command Headquarters announced, "NATO has increased ballistic missile defense measures across the alliance."
"WE HAVE INCREASED BALLISTIC MISSILE DEFENSE MEASURES"
NATO's European Allied Command Headquarters (SHAPE) made a written statement following missile attacks from Iran. SHAPE Spokesperson Colonel Martin L. O'Donnell stated, "Yesterday, in addition to successfully intercepting a ballistic missile targeting Turkey from Iran, I can confirm that NATO has increased ballistic missile defense measures across the alliance."
O'Donnell reported that the measures were increased by a decision made by the NATO Air Command Commander, stating, "He has also recommended that NATO's ballistic missile defense measures remain at this level until the threat from Iran, which indiscriminately targets the region, ceases."
"WE CONDEMN IRAN TARGETING TURKEY"
Expressing that the allies unanimously supported the increase in measures, O'Donnell said, "Allies have thanked the European Allied Command and SHAPE for the rapid and potentially life-saving response and have once again condemned Iran's targeting of Turkey."
Not providing details about the increased measures for operational security reasons, O'Donnell stated, "The adjustment provides the European Allied Forces Commander with exactly the capability needed to defend the alliance based on the current threat and to act as deemed appropriate."
Highlighting that NATO flawlessly executed ballistic missile defense procedures yesterday, O'Donnell said, "In less than 10 minutes, personnel in NATO service detected a threat to Allies from a ballistic missile, confirmed its trajectory, alerted land and sea-based missile defense systems, and launched a preventive missile to neutralize the threat, protecting our territory and our people. This is true power."
A MISSILE FIRED FROM IRAN HAD FALLEN IN TURKEY
A ballistic missile launched from Iran, directed towards Turkish airspace via Iraq and Syria, was intercepted by NATO air defense systems stationed in the Eastern Mediterranean. The missile fell in Hatay, and there were no casualties or injuries in the incident.
