After a pest control treatment in an apartment in Çorum, 8 people, including 5 children, were hospitalized with signs of poisoning. The person who conducted the treatment has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

After the Böcek family, who died from poisoning due to pesticide application at their hotel in Istanbul, a similar incident occurred in Çorum.

In an apartment located on Varinli Street in Ulukavak Neighborhood, 8 people, including 5 children, reported suspicion of poisoning in the evening after a pest control application in one of the apartments. Following the report, health, fire, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the area. Eight people from three families were taken to Hitit University Training and Research Hospital.

PERSON WHO PERFORMED THE APPLICATION DETAINED

The person who performed the application, A.U., was detained. It was reported that the health conditions of those taken to the hospital were good and that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Meanwhile, a statement was made by the Çorum Governorate regarding the incident. The statement included the following remarks:

"Due to the news that emerged on some social media platforms and internet news sites regarding the poisoning incident that occurred in our province, it has become necessary to make the following statement. On November 29, 2025, around 19:04, a report was made by the residents of an apartment on Varlıklı Street in Çorum Central district, following a pest control application in one of the apartments, on suspicion of chemical poisoning. 112 Emergency Health teams were dispatched to the scene, and the first ambulance arrived within 3 minutes, transporting two children and their mother to Çorum Erol Olçok Training and Research Hospital. The patients exhibited symptoms of nausea and vomiting, and it was learned that their general health conditions were good. Following a second report received at 19:32, AFAD teams were directed to the scene, and chemical measurements were conducted. The checks revealed the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) after the application, and it was determined that a total of 8 people from 3 families were affected. The general health conditions of our citizens receiving treatment in the hospital are good, and none of them are in life-threatening condition. As a precaution, adults were kept under observation in the emergency room for 8 hours, while children were monitored for 24 hours. Measurements conducted by AFAD indicated that no adverse conditions were found in the common areas of the building or in other apartments on the floor where the treated apartment is located. The suspect A.U., who performed the application, has been detained and referred to the police for necessary procedures. The investigation into the incident is being conducted meticulously."
