In Aksu, one of the central districts of Antalya, Mayor İsa Yıldırım announced that he would continue his duties as an independent mayor after resigning from the Republican People's Party (CHP).

AKSU MAYOR RESIGNED FROM CHP

Another mayor has resigned from the CHP. İsa Yıldırım, the Mayor of Aksu in Antalya, announced that he has resigned from the CHP and will continue his path as an independent.

In a written statement on his social media account, İsa Yıldırım reminded that he was elected mayor with 55% of the votes by bringing together the support of CHP cadres and nationalist and conservative voters in the 2024 elections. Yıldırım, who said, "This success is the result of the joint effort of both CHP members and nationalists," stated that the problems within the party after the election brought him to the point of resignation.

"WE ARE FACING A DISTRICT CHAIRMAN WHO LIVES ONLY TO PROTECT HIS SEAT"

Yıldırım claimed that the district chairman deliberately restricted the party membership and blocked new members, using the following expressions: "Unfortunately, despite this great success, we are faced with a district chairman who acts with the understanding that 'What matters is my seat.' We have struggled against an understanding that manages the party for its own benefit, restricting party membership on purpose, blocking new members, and thinking, 'Let there be few members, as long as my seat is secure.' We are now confronted with a district chairman who has completely distanced himself from the thought of increasing the party's votes, the success of the municipality, or serving the public, and who lives only to protect his seat.

"WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE CONGRESS PROCESS WAS THE LAST STRAW"

What happened during the congress process was the last straw. It is unacceptable for the district chairman to belittle and insult our nationalist and conservative voters who voted for the CHP with statements like, "I have never made the Grey Wolf sign in my life." However, these people voted for us believing in our honesty and experience without expecting any benefit. They trusted us by saying, "These people will work and solve our problems." However, the attitude of the district chairman has led to a great disappointment among our citizens who voted for us.

"I WILL CONTINUE MY PATH AS AN INDEPENDENT"

Since that day, our phones have not stopped ringing. Our nationalist and conservative friends expressed their reactions by saying, "We did not expect anything when we voted for the CHP, we only expected service. But we will never accept being insulted." After these words, we became unable to make any explanation to our people. It should not be forgotten that the success in being elected as the Mayor of Aksu is the success of the CHP members, nationalists, and all the people of Aksu.

Our only agenda is to serve Aksu. And no power will keep us from serving Aksu. We do not have a single minute to waste with the chairmanship's seat greed and personal accounts. Therefore, I resign from the Republican People's Party to which I belong and continue my path as an independent mayor. We will continue to serve Aksu in a more peaceful, stronger, and more determined way without bowing to any pressure.
