The restoration work carried out at the historic Selimiye Mosque in Edirne, which sparked significant backlash, has been halted by a court decision. The ruling, made in response to objections claiming that the mosque's original structure had been compromised, was met with public approval.
The Edirne Administrative Court issued a stay of execution decision for the planned restoration works on the dome of the historic Selimiye Mosque.
During the restoration process of the Selimiye Mosque, a masterpiece of Mimar Sinan listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List, the proposed changes to the dome inscriptions have drawn significant backlash.
"RESTORATION WILL DISTORT THE ORIGINAL"
The project that foresees the restoration of the dome inscriptions in a way that will distort the original was brought to the Edirne Administrative Court. The court issued a stay of execution decision regarding the proposed changes to the main dome inscriptions of the Selimiye Mosque.
In its decision, the Edirne Administrative Court stated that all documents related to the project approved by the High Council were requested.
