As Israeli police lifted age bar that limited the access of Palestinian Muslims to the al Aqsa mosque, more than 40 thousand worshippers flocked into the holy place to perform Friday prayers together.

After Israel's five weeks ban, today Palestinians from all ages could visit al-Aqsa mosque with no restrictions. Before the prayers started Israeli authorities deployed extra police forces in the Haram al-Sharif compound - the neighborhood of al-Aqsa mosque. Police forces took strict security precautions at the area during the day.

Preaching before the prayers Palestinian Sheikh Salem Muhammad Ali underscored the importance of unity and solidarity. Sheikh Ali also required Palestinians endeavor to perform all their daily prayers at the holy mosque.

Head of Jerusalem's Awqaf Directorate Azzam al-Hateb stated that today at least 40 thousands of Muslims performed their prayers at the same time in al-Aqsa as all gates of the mosque were open.

Meanwhile, the tension between Palestinians and Israel increased few days ago after an extreme-right winger rabbi was murdered by unidentified people. Aiming to disperse Palestinians from the mosque, Israeli armed forces entered into al-Aqsa mosque with dirty shoes and trampled down the mihrab (a semicircular niche in the wall of a mosque) first time since 1967.
