After the appointment of Akın Gürlek to the Ministry of Justice, the CHP leadership sent two consecutive instructions to its members of parliament. While the CHP leadership called on the members of parliament to attend the Assembly "completely and without excuses," it was also stated that instructions were sent for a meeting to be held in front of the Ministry of Justice on Friday.

The appointment of Akın Gürlek to replace Ali Yerlikaya as the Minister of Interior has stirred political speculation. It has been reported that Gürlek, who came to the fore with investigations targeting municipalities governed by the CHP, has led the CHP leadership to issue consecutive instructions to its members of parliament following his new role.

Journalist Barış Yarkadaş announced the development on his social media account with the headline "Two decisions from CHP." Yarkadaş stated that the CHP leadership called all its members of parliament to the Assembly at 14:00 "completely and without excuses" and requested their presence in the General Assembly.

INSTRUCTION TO MEET IN FRONT OF THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE

According to Yarkadaş's post, the CHP leadership sent a second instruction to the MPs even before the decision to appoint Akın Gürlek was published in the Official Gazette. The instruction sent on Tuesday at 18:00 stated that approximately 50 members of parliament were requested to be present in front of the Ministry of Justice with an organization named ADA on Friday at 11:00.

No official statement has been made by the CHP leadership regarding these developments.

While this change in the Cabinet has caused a significant reaction, the first comment regarding the appointment decision has come from the CHP. CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir reacted to the decision with a statement he made on his social media account after the appointment of Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek as Minister of Justice.

In his post, Emir stated, "You will attempt to strike a blow to the national will through the judiciary and hide behind the shield of immunity, thinking you will save yourself. There's no such looting!"

WHO IS THE NEW MINISTER OF JUSTICE AKIN GÜRLEK?

The new Minister of Justice, Akın Gürlek, was born in 1982 in Nevşehir. Gürlek, who graduated from the Faculty of Law at Marmara University in 2005, served as a judge in various provinces and districts before being appointed as the President of the Istanbul 14th Heavy Criminal Court. While continuing this role, he was appointed as Deputy Minister of Justice on June 1, 2022, and was later appointed as the Chief Public Prosecutor of Istanbul on October 2, 2024.
