An 11-year-old girl in Gaziantep escaped a knife attack in a market thanks to the scarf around her neck. It was revealed that the attacker, who was reported to be mentally unstable, had been following the little girl for days, causing a great uproar in the city.
It has been revealed that 11-year-old Syrian Hüda El Muheymid, who was assaulted and stabbed in the throat by F.K., who was reported to be mentally unstable, survived thanks to the scarf around her neck. Experts stated that the scarf prevented a possible tragedy, while the attacker was arrested.
ATTACKED INSIDE A MARKET
The incident occurred on the evening of January 1 in the Çıksorut neighborhood of the Şahinbey district. According to allegations, F.K. followed the little girl for several days. Hüda El Muheymid, who went outside to buy bread, fled from the suspect who was following her and took refuge in a market. However, F.K., who entered the market, began to assault the child.
HE STABBED HER AFTER LYING HER DOWN
It was reported that the suspect lay the little girl down and sat on her, then wounded her neck with a knife he took out of his pocket. The attack was stopped by the intervention of nearby shopkeepers, and F.K. was neutralized at the scene.
THE MOMENTS WERE CAPTURED ON CAMERA
The moment of the attack was captured second by second on the market's security camera. The footage showed Hüda taking refuge in the market, the suspect talking for a while before launching the attack, and moments when he pulled out the knife and injured the little girl. The attacker was arrested after the incident.
"THE SCARF AROUND HER NECK SAVED HER LIFE"
Associate Professor Dr. Cengiz Çevik, the Ear, Nose, and Throat-Head and Neck Surgery Specialist who took over the treatment, stated that the little girl was not in life-threatening condition. Dr. Çevik said, "If it weren't for the scarf around her neck, the knife could have gone much deeper. If vital vessels were damaged, we could have lost our girl."
"I AM BETTER NOW"
Hüda El Muheymid, who recounted the terrifying moments she experienced, said that the attacker had been following her for days and that she had warned her family. The little girl stated that she was saved thanks to the intervention of the market employees, saying, "I am better now, but I am scared at night."
Hüda's father, Abdurrahman El Muheymid, stated that the attacker should not be released, saying, "Today it is my daughter, tomorrow it could be another child. I want justice to be served."
THERE IS A RISK OF SCARRING
Associate Professor Dr. Cengiz Çevik stated that there is a high probability of scarring in sharp object injuries, saying, "There is a scar of about 3-4 centimeters. We will closely monitor the process with Plastic Surgery and Dermatology specialists. The hospital will cover all treatment costs."
