Erol T., who was living on the street, was hospitalized due to alcohol poisoning. The man's relatives were informed that Erol T. had died. His brother identified him, and a funeral was held. It was later discovered that Erol T., who was recorded as "deceased," was actually alive when he went to give a statement in the investigation related to the alcohol poisoning. The person who was buried in his place turned out to be another individual who had died from alcohol.

60-year-old Erol T., who was living on the streets in Istanbul, was detained on February 17 last year for causing a disturbance. The man, who told the security forces in the police vehicle that he had consumed cologne, was taken to the hospital after he fell ill a short time later. The prosecutor's office launched an investigation into the incident, which was recorded as alcohol poisoning. A letter was sent to the police station for Erol T. to give his statement as a victim.

IDENTIFIED BY HIS BROTHER

After his treatment, Erol T. returned to the streets, but his relatives were informed that he had died. According to a report by Sabah newspaper, his brother Erdoğan T. went to the Forensic Medicine Institution to identify his brother. While a decision of non-prosecution was made in the case related to the death, a funeral was held for Erol T. in his hometown.

REVEALED WHEN HE WENT TO GIVE A STATEMENT

Five months after the funeral, Erol T.'s family experienced a shocking development. The man, who was thought to be dead, went to give a statement regarding the fake alcohol investigation conducted by the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Erol T., who went to the Hasanpaşa Police Station in Kadıköy, stated that he constantly consumed alcoholic beverages, saying, "I was drinking at Kurbağalıdere. I don't remember the rest. I was treated in the hospital for a month. I am not complaining about anyone regarding the incident."

"POLICE SAID THEY WOULD IDENTIFY HIM"

After this statement was given at the police station, the prosecutor's office contacted the man's brother. Erdoğan T., who was called to give a statement regarding the incident, said that he identified his brother at the Forensic Medicine Institution. Erdoğan T. stated that the body, which was deformed, resembled his brother very much, saying, "The doctor said there could be changes due to the waiting. When the police indicated that they had made the identification, I concluded that the deceased was my brother."

THEY BURIED A HOMELESS PERSON IN HIS PLACE

Following these developments, the grave where Erol T. was believed to be buried was opened, and it was documented that the man was not dead. It was understood that a homeless person who died of alcohol poisoning in Kadıköy was buried in Erol T.'s place.
