Ancient Bronze And Iron Masks Found İn Se Turkey

In the southeasternTurkish province of Mardin which has 7 thousand years of historical background, bronze and iron masks have been found in the 3rd century B.C. The archeological excavations are carried out by the Museum of Mardin in Ilısu Dam. It is determined that the masks belong to a travelling theatre group which came to Mardin at the time of Roman Empire. The masks were restorated in a labratory located in the Museum of Mardin and then taken under protection.



7 months ago, the first "land title" and "toy car" of the world were found in a village of Gırnavaz, which is in the district of Nusaybin of Mardin province. The following discovery was the exploration of the 2 thousand years old iron and bronze masks used by Roman travelling actors. Upon this, the Mardin Museum have stepped up the excavations in Ilısu Dam.



The city of Mardin which reserves the world's oldest civilizations, history comes out every step you dig stated Mardin Culture and Tourism Director Davut Beliktay. "It is revealed that this historical artifact from Roman Empire have been brought to Mardin by the travelling theatres as there has been no theatre here at that time. This travelling theatre is presumed to come from west to east." said Beliktay.



The Director of Mardin Museum, Nihat Erdoğan, stated that the revealed artifacts have an historical importance to Mardin. He also said that these masks are beyond price and added, " We are very glad that Turkey's first masks have been found in Mardin. Mardin has a very rich history. Our teams continue to the excavation works in Ilısu Dam. We are trying to come the historical treasure out here."
