The eyes are on the majority in the council ahead of the vice president election to be held today to replace Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey, who was suspended from duty after being arrested. Today, a vice president election will be held to replace Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey, who was suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior following his arrest. All eyes are on the candidate of the People's Alliance in the vote that will take place in the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Council.
CANDIDATE OF THE PEOPLE'S ALLIANCE: ŞAHİN BİBA The joint candidate of the People's Alliance has been determined as Şahin Biba, a member of the Nilüfer Municipality Council. Due to the majority of AK Party and MHP members in the council, it is expected that the management of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality will pass to the AK Party.
Şahin Biba, Member of the Nilüfer Municipality Council BOZBEY WAS ARRESTED Mustafa Bozbey, who was detained on March 31 as part of an investigation conducted by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was arrested on charges of "establishing and managing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime, membership in an organization, bribery, laundering assets derived from a crime, and causing environmental pollution." The Ministry of Interior also suspended Bozbey from duty.
MAJORITY IN THE COUNCIL BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE'S ALLIANCE In the local elections held on March 31, 2024, CHP candidate Mustafa Bozbey won the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Presidency. However, the majority in the municipal council is held by AK Party and MHP members. Therefore, it is assessed that the candidate of the People's Alliance is ahead in the upcoming vote.
EXTENSIVE SECURITY MEASURES BEFORE THE ELECTION According to journalist Yaman Kaya, extensive security measures have been taken around the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality building before the election. Some roads have been closed to traffic, and some municipal employees have not been allowed to pass with their vehicles.
