The TasteAtlas platform declared Antakya Kunefe the best dessert in the world based on over 97,000 reviews. Turkey was represented in the top 10 with a total of three flavors, including Baklava and Pistachio Roll. Hatay Metropolitan Mayor Mehmet Öntürk stated that they already knew Antakya Kunefe was the best dessert in the world, and it is a source of pride that this has been officially recognized.
The world-famous gastronomy platform TasteAtlas has announced its list of "The 100 Best Desserts in the World," based on user reviews and critic scores. While Turkish cuisine made a significant impact on the list, Antakya Künefesi, a dessert combining shredded pastry, cheese, and syrup, secured its top position with an average score of 4.51.
In the list where 2,274 desserts from the platform's database competed, Hatay's registered künefe was chosen as the best in the world.
Öntürk: "We Already Knew"
Following the announcement of Antakya Künefesi as the world champion, Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Öntürk made a statement. Mayor Öntürk said, "We already knew that Antakya Künefesi is the best dessert in the world, and now it has been certified. We invite everyone to come to Hatay to taste the best dessert in the world," he stated.
Baklava and Pistachio Roll Also in the Top 10
In addition to Antakya Künefesi's top position, Turkey was also represented in the top 10 with Baklava and Pistachio Roll. With three different desserts in the top 10, Turkey once again proved its strong position in the gastronomy world with its rich culinary culture and traditional flavors.
