Yesterday, Gaziantep FK's head coach Burak Yılmaz, who lost 1-0 to Göztepe, had stated that he would not be with the team in two weeks. However, Burak Yılmaz has brought forward his resignation decision and left his position.
Here is Gaziantep FK's statement:
"After the match against Göztepe played yesterday, our head coach Burak Yılmaz, who announced that he would leave his position after two matches, has expressed that it would be more appropriate to resign at this moment in line with his decision. We thank our head coach Burak Yılmaz and his team for their efforts and wish them success in their future careers."
WHAT DID HE SAY YESTERDAY?
Burak Yılmaz had clearly signaled his departure with statements made after the Göztepe match. Reminding that when he came to Gaziantep FK, the team was in a position with zero points, not scoring any goals, and considered relegated, Yılmaz stated that they had created a team that collected 23 points and dreamed of Europe at this point.
"I DID NOT DESERVE THIS REACTION"
Pointing out the reactions from the stands, Burak Yılmaz expressed that he could not accept the insults directed at the club. Claiming that politics in the city had overshadowed football, Yılmaz stated that he could understand the criticisms directed at the president being made through him, but emphasized that he was not anyone's man. Yılmaz also added that what had happened was not in line with the sense of loyalty.
"I SAID I WOULD LEAVE AFTER TWO MATCHES"
The experienced coach clearly stated in his announcement that he would leave after the matches against Çaykur Rizespor and Başakşehir, mentioning that they aimed for victories in both the cup and the league during this process. However, it was reported that Burak Yılmaz resigned without waiting for this process after the last defeat and left Gaziantep. An official statement regarding the resignation from Gaziantep FK is expected to be made shortly.
