Asia Shares End Day Mixed On US Inflation Data

Losing 276.53 points, or nearly 1%, Nikkei 225 index in Tokyo closes at 28,489.

Stock markets in Asia closed on Thursday mostly in the red, as inflation data released in the US decreased risk appetite.

On Wednesday, the US inflation rate hit its highest level since 1982, with a December reading of 7% compared to the previous year.

The Asia Dow, which includes the region's blue-chip companies, gained 14.97 points, or 0.38%, to close at 3,906 points.

Losing 276.53 points, or nearly 1%, the Nikkei 225 index in Tokyo closed at 28,489.

The Hang Seng, the benchmark for blue-chip stocks trading on the Hong Kong stock exchange, rose 27.60 points, or 0.11%, to 24,429.

China's Shanghai stock exchange, on the other hand, posted a fall of 42 points, or 1.17%, to 3,555.

The Indian Sensex benchmark gained 96.74 points, or 0.16%, to close at 61,246, while the Singapore index rose 2.32 points, 0.07%, to 3,257. -
