After the "European Super League" project that came to the fore in Europe in 2021, a new tournament idea has emerged. A22 Sports Management, the owner of the European Super League format, knocked on UEFA and FIFA's door with a new tournament called "Unify League".
A22's CEO, Bernd Reichart, stated regarding the new tournament idea, "A22 is focused on ensuring the sustainable growth and development of football. Comprehensive discussions we have had with key stakeholders have revealed a series of urgent issues facing football, such as rising season ticket costs for fans, an excessive schedule for players, insufficient investment in women's football, and dissatisfaction with the format and management of existing European matches. Our proposal is designed to directly address these challenges."
SUPPORT FROM REAL MADRID
Real Madrid, which has provided the greatest support for the European Super League, has also backed the new tournament. The Spanish club's general manager, Jose Angel Sanchez, said, "The current governing bodies of football are like the musicians on the Titanic! The system is over! The situation is now even more urgent! Real Madrid will continue to work towards the realization of this idea. Clubs are taking on all entrepreneurial risks. UEFA wants to maintain its position, but this only hinders innovation."
96 TEAMS WILL PARTICIPATE
A total of 96 teams will participate in the Unify League, and after the qualifiers, the teams will be divided into 4 leagues. There will be 16 teams in the Stars and Gold Leagues, while there will be 32 teams competing in the third and fourth leagues.
