MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli stated that a new initiative and roadmap are needed in the Terror-Free Turkey process, saying, "While preserving Öcalan's conviction status, he should be equipped with a social status, and a structure should be built that allows him to maintain his influence over the organization, instead of the founding leadership of the dissolved PKK."
MHP Leader Devlet Bahçeli shared his assessments regarding the new roadmap and process in the "Terror-Free Turkey" goal with TÜRKGÜN Newspaper.
Stating that there is a need for a new move and a suitable roadmap in the "Terror-Free Turkey" process, Bahçeli said, "Instead of the founding leadership of the dissolved PKK, a structure should be built where Öcalan can maintain his influence over the organization."
Noting that the terror-free Turkey goal is becoming a reality with the right steps taken at the right time, Bahçeli stated, "The political, legal, and social conditions to make this possible exist in our country. Indeed, the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s ‘National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission’ has served an important function in this regard."
Emphasizing that a more democratic, stronger, and more prosperous Turkey is everyone's common desire, Bahçeli said, "A terror-free Turkey, based on such an understanding, is the strategic door to the goal of the Turkish and Turkey Century, and Turkey is conducting activities with determination and care to completely overcome the scourge of terrorism by passing an important threshold."
"THERE SHOULD BE A SUITABLE STATUS"
Noting that there is a lack of communication regarding the mutual meaningfulness of actions and statements, Bahçeli stated, “At this point, it is necessary to put forward a roadmap for the new stage and activate the necessary mechanisms in this direction. Creating a mechanism that enables the implementation of sanctions on the organization, authorizing state institutions to monitor developments, and simultaneously making legal and administrative arrangements to highlight peace, brotherhood, politics, and democratic values will serve the goal of achieving a terror-free Turkey. Walking on the path to a terror-free Turkey with fragmented structures will delay results, increase provocations, allow external interventions, highlight and make visible intra-organizational conflict dynamics, and complicate achieving results. The use of the term 'founding leader of the organization' from the beginning is also aimed at alleviating this concern, reducing potential risks, and achieving results regarding the terror-free Turkey goal as quickly as possible.”
“PEACE PROCESS AND POLITICIZATION COORDINATORSHIP”
Bahçeli said, “In the liquidation processes of terrorist organizations, multiple voices in the leadership mechanism may lead to the emergence of other leaderships after the organization’s liquidation and the reorganization of the organization under different names. In this context, it is essential to clearly and unambiguously identify the interlocutor during the liquidation processes of terrorism. Equipping Öcalan with a social status, while preserving his conviction, will enable the organizational activities of the dissolved PKK and its components, or their disarmament, to be carried out more healthily. A ‘Peace Process and Politicization Coordinatorship’ could be a suitable status description in this direction.”
“THE COORDINATORSHIP WILL BE LIMITED TO THE ORGANIZATION’S LIQUIDATION”
Also conveying details regarding the definition and scope of the coordinatorship mechanism, Bahçeli said, “This status is defined as aimed at the definitive liquidation of the organization, along with all its derivatives and elements, upon its dissolution. The coordinatorship is envisioned for the purpose of coordinating the absolute disarmament and liquidation of the PKK terrorist organization, all its extensions, organizational leaders, and militants, preventing the ongoing peace process from being interrupted in its organizational aspect, and making legitimate directions towards the choice of politics instead of weapons. Accordingly, Öcalan’s coordinator status will be limited to the organization’s liquidation process. Therefore, this coordinatorship does not cover matters such as being the leader and representative of the Kurds, or advocating ethnic and categorical rights.”
