It has been claimed that MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli called former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is imprisoned in Edirne Prison, by phone.
The process that started with MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's message of "Terror-Free Turkey" saw the DEM Party delegation visit İmralı three times. At the end of the third meeting, the DEM Party delegation announced to the public the call of the PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan to the PKK to "Lay down your arms." There has been another new development regarding the process.
BAHÇELİ'S PHONE CALL TO DEMİRTAŞ
Habertürk newspaper writer Nagehan Alçı stated in a broadcast she participated in on Habertürk TV that Devlet Bahçeli called the former co-chair of the HDP, Selahattin Demirtaş, who is imprisoned in Edirne Prison. It was reported that the phone call took place yesterday.
HE HAD ALSO CALLED BAKIRHAN
MHP leader Bahçeli had also called DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan following Öcalan's call. Bakırhan, in a television program he participated in, stated that Bahçeli called him after Öcalan's call, using the following expressions: "Mr. Öcalan values the October 1 statement and considers it very important. He dedicated special time to it. Mr. Bahçeli said that he could play his role right after this call. After the live broadcast, Bahçeli called me. He congratulated me. He said, 'Relax, we will democratize this country together.' We will do everything we can for democracy. I am where I stand. I am ready to do whatever is necessary for democracy," he said.
"THE SEARCH HAS BEGUN TO BEAR FRUIT"
Selahattin Demirtaş, in an article published in Gazete Duvar following Öcalan's call for the dissolution of the PKK, stated: "The new search, in which Devlet Bahçeli, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Abdullah Öcalan are at the center, has begun to bear its first fruit as we enter the month of Ramadan. There are those who trust these leaders, each of whom are the strongest figures representing their respective groups, and there are also those who do not trust them and have concerns. Of course, both sides have valid reasons, and no one can deny this. The difficulty of peace lies precisely at this point; lasting peace can only be achieved through a process that the majority of society trusts, believes in, and wholeheartedly supports. Brothers, it is desired that war, weapons, violence, terror, blood, tears, death, and destruction come to an end, that’s all. IT IS DESIRED TO END! Of course, this is provided that all necessary legal and political infrastructure is established on the floor of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Do not be afraid of peace, brother. Do not be afraid of Turks and Kurds coming together to grow Turkey. Do not be afraid to support every step that will bring peace to the region. Do not be afraid so that this time we can silence the weapons and let politics speak. Let’s defeat poverty, unemployment, hunger, injustice, and inequality together through political struggle. Let’s ensure that the billions of dollars spent on war are directly spent on the people. Let’s not forget that peace is also bread, sustenance, and work."
