MHP General Chairman Devlet Bahçeli answered questions from journalists at the reception held for the new legislative year in the Parliament. In response to a question about his handshake with Özel and Bakırhan during the opening of the new legislative year in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Bahçeli replied, "We are entering a new era. While seeking peace in the world, we need to ensure peace in our own country."

In response to another journalist's question, "Today you had harsh criticisms towards Özgür Özel, but then you came to shake hands. How do you evaluate this?" Bahçeli said, "A handshake is a sign of evaluation." MHP leader Bahçeli also responded to the statement, "You had contact with the DEM party as well. You expressed your condolences," by saying, "Yes, that is correct."
