A new move has come from North Korea that will escalate tensions with South Korea. In a statement from the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), it was reported that Pyongyang sent approximately 40 balloons carrying trash over the border regions to South Korea from last night until the morning hours. The statement noted that about 30 of the balloons landed in the capital city of Seoul and the surrounding Gyeonggi province, stating, "Among the trash carried by the balloons were anti-South Korean propaganda leaflets. However, no substances that would pose a security threat were found." BALLOONS HAVE CAUSED SECURITY CONCERNSNorth Korea had sent thousands of trash-carrying balloons to South Korea since May in response to South Korean activists sending propaganda leaflets into the country with balloons. The landing of some of the balloons in the South Korean Presidential residence and residential areas had raised security concerns.
