While the repercussions of the armed attack that occurred during a cemetery visit in Batman two days ago, resulting in the deaths of three people from the same family, continue, Hatice Türkan, the owner of Batman Söz Newspaper, explained the background of the incident on Haberler.com screens. Türkan stated that the incident was a continuation of a feud that began with a comment on TikTok, detailing the months-long threat process between the parties and the latest developments in the investigation.
In Batman, 3 people from the same family lost their lives and 2 were injured in an armed attack during a cemetery visit. Regarding the incident, the Batman governor's office stated that it was a continuation of a murder that occurred in May and was believed to stem from a girl-related issue.
On Haberler.com broadcast, guest Melis Yaşar welcomed Hatice Türkan, the owner of Batman Söz Newspaper, who explained the details and the background of the incident.
IT ALL STARTED WITH A COMMENT
Türkan stated that the tragic incident actually began on May 16, 2026, saying, "A feud started between the Görege family and the Direk family due to a comment made on a girl's TikTok post. This feud has been going on for 2 months. Because of that comment, a person named T. D. from the Direk family stabbed Hasan Hüseyin Görege, and after 2 days, Hasan Hüseyin Görege died in intensive care."
THE FAMILY COULDN'T LEAVE HOME FOR 2 MONTHS
Türkan noted that the claim that the incident started with a comment on TikTok is only information given to journalists and has not yet been confirmed, stating, "It was also announced by the Batman governor's office. According to the information given only to journalists, it was said to be 'a comment made on a TikTok post.' Hasan Hüseyin Görege was stabbed in the foot by the person named T. D. and unfortunately died 2 days later. After this incident, the family of Hasan Hüseyin Görege began making threatening statements, seeking revenge against the Direk family. They said, 'Leave your house, leave Batman, or one of you will also die.' The threats continued for 2 months. Because of this, the Direk family didn't leave home at all for 2 months. They shut themselves indoors. They said, 'You will leave Batman, and we will take a life from you, and we will shed your blood.' Of course, there were attempts in between."
THEY AMBUSHED AT THE CEMETERY
Hatice Türkan stated that there were families trying to reconcile the two families, but peace could not be achieved, and said the following:
"Until the date of July 26, 2026, the Direk family left the house for the first time and went to the cemetery. They went to Asri Cemetery in the Çamlıca neighborhood for a cemetery visit. Meanwhile, 4 people from the Görege family came to the cemetery. It is known as an ambush; they came there and started waiting. While the Görege family was waiting there, the Direk family arrived at the cemetery, and an armed attack took place.
3 people from the Direk family lost their lives there. 2 people from the Görege family were taken to the hospital in serious condition. Among the deceased were Mehmet Direk, his son Adnan Direk, and his nephew Ebu Bekir Direk. Meanwhile, Mehmet Direk was from the AK Party central district administration, a politician in Batman. The other 2 from the Görege family were taken to the hospital seriously injured. Their condition is critical; critical news may come at any moment. In fact, news is coming in constantly, but we have unconfirmed information about their deaths. 2 people are currently in custody."
EVENTS DEVELOPED WHEN THE FAMILY WENT OUT
Türkan described how the Direk family had not left home for 2 months, and when they finally went out for a cemetery visit, they were subjected to a planned armed attack:
"The incident was reported as an ambush in many news pages. It means preparations had been made; threat messages were already being sent. They said, 'Let them leave Batman. Otherwise, we will carry out the attack in the same way. We will shed one of your lives.' While these threat messages were already evident, the Direk family's visit to the cemetery actually caused the blood feud to escalate. And it caused it to grow. The attack happened this way."
EVENTS ON THE DAY AND CURRENT STATUS
Describing the atmosphere on the day of the incident and the current situation in Batman, Türkan said, "On the day of the incident, we were truly in shock. Everyone was uneasy; journalists and agency reporters rushed to the cemetery. When many ambulances and fire trucks were directed to the cemetery, our news office and reporters also hurried to the cemetery in the evening. The atmosphere there was very tense. In fact, some of our journalist colleagues saw police vehicles and immediately drove to the cemetery. It was very tense. There was also an attempted attack on journalists. They tried to prevent them from filming. Even now in Batman, this incident is still being talked about on the streets, in coffeehouses, and in workplaces."
Hatice Türkan stated that everyone was in shock and continued to describe the incident:
"The fact that a blood feud reached this point in two months without resulting in peace has caused great sorrow. Moreover, in a period when we talk about the peace process and social peace, this incident has created unease in everyone."
WHAT IS THE STATUS OF THE INVESTIGATION?
Providing information about the investigation process, Türkan said, "The governor's office has expanded the investigation. The other two people are still in intensive care. Against possible incidents and to prevent new ones, the police are conducting extensive measures and investigations in Seyitler Mahallesi, around Asri Cemetery, and in Çamlıca Mahallesi."
"WILL THEY TAKE REVENGE?"
Türkan expressed concern that the incidents might escalate in the coming days, saying, "Because the other side might want to pursue this matter. Three lives lost; it's truly hard. Father, son, nephew. How will they express this pain? Will they seek revenge? Or will they handle it legally? In such a situation, will the other side take revenge? Currently, through political channels—I mentioned that Mehmet Dilek was in the AK Party central district administration—calls for common sense are being made. Civil society organizations are also sending calls for common sense to newspapers and bulletins. I think that deputies or politicians will take steps to ensure a reconciliation or peace between the two families, not allowing this incident to grow further."
He used expressions like "I hope so."
"DETENTIONS WILL INCREASE"
Hatice Türkan stated that precautions have been taken in areas where problems might arise after the incident, saying, "Armored vehicles and patrols are already in the neighborhoods. The police are the same. It seems detentions will increase. Since there are two people still in intensive care treatment, everyone is in a waiting situation now. But God forbid, our biggest fear is that this incident could trigger a second or third outbreak. Perhaps messages of common sense need to increase. Maybe the investigation or security measures need to be expanded further after this process."
After sharing this information, Hatice Türkan thanked the Haberler.com family.
