Konyaspor's defender Adil Demirbağ, who received a 45-day suspension for allegedly betting, said, "To be honest, I was upset at first. But we had to get over this. Defender Adil Demirbağ of Konyaspor, who was referred to the Professional Football Discipline Board (PFDK) and received a 45-day ban due to allegations of betting, started his training after completing his sentence on December 27, 2025. The 28-year-old Adil Demirbağ, who has been playing for the green-white team for 6 seasons, made statements to İhlas News Agency (IHA) at the hotel where his team is camped in Antalya.
'AN UNCONSCIOUS MISTAKE MADE A LONG TIME AGO'
Demirbağ also mentioned his punishment for betting, saying, "One of the things I need to say about the matter is that I was very sad. It was a mistake made a long time ago and an unconscious mistake. Our management, especially our President Ömer Atiker, provided incredible support, starting with my family. Because the statements at that time had shocked me a lot. I am not such a person anyway. I want to thank them again. I thank our fans very much. Because sometimes I came across nice comments on social media. They shouldn't worry at all; it's a cliché phrase, but I didn't just come, I came back. Adil will continue from where he left off, they shouldn't worry at all," he said.
'THEY KNOW I AM NOT SUCH A PERSON'
Adil Demirbağ, who expressed that he felt sad after receiving a penalty from the PFDK but managed to recover over time, stated, "To be honest, I was sad at first. But we had to get over this. Right now, I am not mentally down in any way; on the contrary, a person who falls becomes stronger. I am stronger, I am standing tall. They will see a better version of Adil than they saw in the first and past periods. At first, you really think about all the negativities. Mistakes can happen in matches played against big teams. In the place where you are a rival in an Anatolian team, it should hurt you, and it will be discussed. Maybe you will perform well, but they will use this situation to bring you down. Perhaps sometimes our own fans will bring these issues to the agenda. We have a mentor here, and we sometimes discuss these things with Coach Hüseyin. I am prepared for all of this. It doesn't matter; I will come out and fight in the best way possible. Because people who know me closely know that I am not such a person. I hope the issues do not evolve into something else, but if they do, I am ready for it," he expressed.
