In Madrid meeting, Boris Johnson praised President Erdogan’s leadership in getting grain out of Ukraine, says spokesperson.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson hailed Türkiye's efforts to get grain out of Ukraine in his meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Madrid on Wednesday.

Erdogan and Johnson met on the sidelines of the ongoing NATO summit in the Spanish capital.

Johnson "praised President Erdogan's leadership on the issue of getting grain out of Ukraine," according to a Downing Street spokesperson.

The British premier said Russian President Vladimir Putin's "ongoing blockade of Ukraine's ports is creating an international humanitarian crisis, both in Ukraine and around the world."

He also welcomed the memorandum signed by Türkiye, Sweden, and Finland that paved the way for the two countries' NATO membership.

Johnson and Erdogan also "discussed deepening the UK-Türkiye relationship, particularly in technology and energy."

"They agreed to look at measures to further improve business mobility between our two countries, helping to create jobs and boost economic growth for both the UK and Türkiye," the spokesperson said.
