Campaign kicks off Wednesday with Liberals, Conservatives neck and neck in polls.

The Canadian federal election began Thursday with Prime Minister's Justin Trudeau governing Liberal party in a dead heat with that of the official opposition, Andrew Scheer and the Progressive Conservatives.

That is according to the latest poll by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Poll tracker.

This will be Canada's 43rd general election and the campaign will last 40 days leading up the Oct. 21 vote.

Parliament has been dissolved, leaving the 338 members of parliament free to campaign in their home territory.

Also in the running are the New Democrats and the Green Party. -
