Independent Istanbul MP Cemal Enginyurt made statements that will be widely discussed on the Haber Bahane program hosted by Gökay Kalaycıoğlu in the Haberler.com studio.
"MY NATIONALIST JOURNEY STARTED BECAUSE NATIONALISTS WERE IN THE MINORITY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD"
Sharing many topics from his youth years to his prison experience, from his entry into politics to the events in the Parliament, Cemal Enginyurt also recounted his story of meeting nationalism, saying, "My nationalist journey started because nationalists were in the minority in the neighborhood. My issue was to stand by the powerless, it had no ideology."
“I USED TO TELL MY FRIENDS IN PRISON, 'I WILL BE A MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT, I WILL GET YOU ALL A JOB'”
Describing the difficult days he spent in prison, Enginyurt shared a promise he made to his friends, saying, "I used to tell my friends, 'I will be a member of parliament, I will get you all a job.' They always laughed, but I always believed."
"I WAS BEATEN FOR NOT KNOWING THE 6TH STANZA OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEM"
Enginyurt, who also talked about his military memories, said, "You are a nationalist, you are a Turk, you are a Turkish nationalist, but the soldier was trying to make us read the 6th stanza of the National Anthem, and we were beaten because we didn't know it. I still can't forget that. I mean, even while reading two stanzas, I was beaten by the soldier for not knowing the following stanzas, I can never forget that part. Imagine believing that you are in prison for the National Anthem, you say homeland and flag, but when they ask you to read the 5th stanza, the 7th stanza, and the whole thing, we were beaten by a soldier who didn't know Turkish because we couldn't read it, that is still the greatest pain I can't forget, the darkest picture for me."
