A long-standing feud between Hıdır A., the suspect who shot and killed Mehmet Koçyiğit and his 11-year-old son Servet in Konya, and the Koçyiğit family has come to light. According to the police investigation, the motive for the murder was a dispute over scrap metal trading that has been ongoing since 2021. It has been determined that there have been previous knife and gun fights between the parties, and the latest attack is related to these incidents.
In the Karatay district of Konya, a father and son lost their lives in a shooting incident. The suspect, who fled the scene, was caught by the police while hiding in a cornfield.
THEY WERE ATTACKED WHILE GETTING INTO THE CAR
The incident occurred last Monday morning in the Karaaslan neighborhood. Mehmet Koçyiğit (33) and his son Servet Koçyiğit (11) were attacked while getting into their car in their garden. The father died at the scene, while his son, who was seriously injured, could not be saved at Konya City Hospital.
THE SUSPECT WAS CAUGHT IN THE CORNFIELD
Police teams identified the attacker as 60-year-old Hıdır A. The suspect was caught and detained while hiding in a cornfield in the Çatalhüyük neighborhood of Karatay district. While being taken to the hospital for a health check, the suspect answered questions from reporters, saying, "I didn't see the child. If I had seen him, I wouldn't have shot, I regret it."
THE REASON FOR THE MURDER: FEUD OVER SCRAP
Investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a feud that began in 2021 over the buying and selling of scrap. It was determined that there had been multiple knife and gun fights between the two sides due to previous altercations, and that the last attack was a continuation of this enmity.
