The Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, drew attention to the pollution in the İzmir Bay with a water bottle he held during the ongoing budget discussions of the ministry in the Plan and Budget Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Kurum criticized the CHP, which holds the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, stating that fish are dying in the bay. A RESPONSE FROM TUGAYİzmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay responded to Minister Kurum by making a statement regarding the events. Tugay expressed that they are striving to clean the İzmir Bay from pollution and directed some questions to the ministry. "ISN'T THE RESPONSIBILITY OF CLEANING THE POLLUTION THE MINISTRY'S?"Tugay's questions are as follows: - Why is there no screening activity taking place? Isn't the responsibility for cleaning this pollution, even if we polluted, belong to the ministry?
- Why is permission not granted for a 5.5 billion TL loan for major projects that will affect the cleaning of the bay, especially the 4th Phase? (A total of 9 billion TL is pending)
- Why are no measures being taken for the pollution coming from Gediz, the Port, the Shipyard, and the Organized Industrial Zones?
