Two suspects arrested in connection with the death of musician Çınar Ersanlı, who was found dead at his home in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul with his hands and feet bound, are facing an indictment seeking aggravated life imprisonment and up to 21 years in prison. The indictment prepared by the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office states that suspect Emre E. and Ersanlı had known each other for about a year and occasionally met to use drugs.

THEY STRANGLED HIM FOR MONEY

The indictment notes that Emre E., who was aware of Çınar Ersanlı's good financial situation, mentioned Ersanlı to his friend, the other suspect Mehmet Ali U., proposing that they commit the crime together to take his money and belongings. After Mehmet Ali U. accepted the offer, the two suspects went to Ersanlı's residence on the day of the incident, attacked him, threw him to the ground, bound his hands and feet with a cable, and suffocated him with a towel over his mouth and nose.

AFTER THE MURDER, THEY WENT TO A CAFE USING THE VICTIM'S CREDIT CARD

The indictment states that the suspects left the house after taking Ersanlı's mobile phone, computer, 3,000 lira, wallet containing a credit card, necklace, ring, watch, and sunglasses, and that they sold the phone and computer online to split the money. It was reported that they went to a cafe after the murder and made purchases using Ersanlı's credit card. According to the autopsy report included in the indictment, the cause of death was determined to be strangulation.

THEY SOLD THE COMPUTER AND PHONE AND SPLIT THE MONEY

The indictment also includes the suspects' statements, where Mehmet Ali U. explained that they committed the crime together at the suggestion of the other suspect Emre E., stating that they acted with the intent to rob, that they covered Ersanlı's mouth to silence him, and that they used the money and credit card they took together, splitting the 13,000 lira they obtained from selling the computer and phone through an online advertisement. Suspect Emre E. stated in his testimony that Mehmet Ali U. killed Ersanlı during their visit to his home.

REQUEST FOR LIFE IMPRISONMENT AND UP TO 21 YEARS IN PRISON

The indictment requests that suspects Emre E. and Mehmet Ali U. be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "premeditated murder." Additionally, the suspects face a request for up to 21 years in prison for the crimes of "qualified robbery by multiple persons at night" and "misuse of someone else's bank or credit card."

WHAT HAPPENED?

On August 18, the Istanbul Police Department's Homicide Bureau conducted an investigation after Çınar Ersanlı was found dead with his hands and feet bound by his relatives at his home in the Feneryolu neighborhood.

Investigating the security camera footage of the apartment, the teams identified two individuals walking to the front of the building, meeting with Ersanlı, and entering the house. The suspects, identified as Mehmet Ali U. (19) and Emre E. (26), were detained in Beşiktaş. It was understood that the suspects had consumed alcohol with their friend Ersanlı on the day of the incident, and that a dispute between them escalated into a fight, resulting in Ersanlı being strangled to death. It was determined that Mehmet Ali U. had one criminal record, while Emre E. had seven. After their procedures at the police station, the suspects were arrested by the judicial authorities to which they were referred.
