In Beyoğlu, 6-month-old baby Melisa D. reportedly died in the hospital where she was taken due to a high fever complaint. Following the incident, police teams launched an investigation and detained the Kenyan mother and caregiver.
The incident occurred around 03:15 yesterday in the Bülbül neighborhood. Allegedly, Deniz D. (41) left his child, 6-month-old Melisa D., with the caregiver Isha K. (34), who is of Sierra Leonean nationality, and went to work, while the child's mother, Kenyan Lindah Nyamoıta S. (26), had come to Turkey in 2022.
6-MONTH-OLD BABY DIED
During the night, the caregiver noticed that the baby had a fever and reported it to the health teams. Melisa D. was taken to Taksim Training and Research Hospital by the emergency health teams that arrived at the scene upon the report. It was determined that Melisa D. had a seizure due to high fever, and despite all interventions, she passed away.
FOUND MOTIONLESS WHEN SHE CAME TO CHANGE THE DIAPER
After the incident, the Kasımpaşa Police Station teams initiated an investigation. It was determined that the father, Deniz D., was married to his wife but they had been living separately for 3 years. The mother, Lindah Nyamoıta S., left the baby with the caregiver Isha K. saying she was going to work, and it was learned from the caregiver's statement that when baby Melisa D. was brought to her, she was ill, and when she got up at night to change the baby's diaper, she found her motionless and called for an ambulance. Subsequently, the emergency health teams that arrived at the scene took the baby to the hospital, but it was determined that the caregiver did not get into the ambulance and instead wandered around for about 2 hours trying to find out which hospital the baby was taken to.
MOTHER AND CAREGIVER ARRESTED
It was learned that the mother, Lindah Nyamoıta S., stated in her testimony that her baby was not ill. The father, Deniz D., indicated that he had not seen the mother and child for about a week. The father's statement was taken as a witness regarding the incident. Meanwhile, after the procedures at the police station, the mother Lindah Nyamoıta S. and the caregiver Isha K. were referred to the courthouse, where they were arrested by the court on charges of 'causing death by conscious negligence' and sent to prison. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
