THE MINISTRY ACTED UPON THE APPLICATION
Following the application made to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office by Osman Gökçek, the son of former Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Melih Gökçek, regarding the period when Keçiören Mayor Mesut Özarslan, who resigned from the CHP and is rumored to join the AK Party, was the General Manager of PORTAŞ A.Ş., the Ministry of Interior initiated an investigation.
THE COMPLAINT WAS MADE ON JANUARY 6, 2026
According to information obtained by ANKA News Agency, a civil inspector was assigned by the Ministry of Interior following a complaint made on January 6, 2026, regarding the projects implemented in the Hıdırlıktepe area, which includes the Şükran Monument and the Martyrs' Monument. The petition submitted to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office by Osman Gökçek included allegations of "manipulating the tender" and "abuse of power" concerning the recreational area and monument projects carried out in Hıdırlıktepe.
NOTABLE ALLEGATIONS IN THE PETITION
The complaint petition emphasized that the construction process of the projects was initiated during the period when Mesut Özarslan served as the General Manager of PORTAŞ A.Ş. It was noted that the tender processes and construction applications were also carried out during Özarslan's tenure as general manager. The application claimed that some purchases and service tenders conducted within the scope of the project were processed at prices above the market values, leading to public harm.
