The 20th Extraordinary Congress, which was convened with the agenda of the amendment of the CHP's regulations, has begun. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, along with former party leaders Altan Öymen, Hikmet Çetin, and Murat Karayalçın, attended the congress. In his opening speech at the congress, which Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu did not attend, Özel said, "Those who run against this party due to personal ambitions should stay where they have run. In this period, these mistakes will not be made, and they will not hold any positions in this party again."

The Republican People's Party (CHP) held its symbolic opening Tüzük Congress in Sivas on September 4th, on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Sivas Congress. Today, the congress officially convened at ATO Congressium in Ankara.

CHP leader Özgür Özel, along with former party leaders Altan Öymen, Hikmet Çetin, and Murat Karayalçın, attended the Second Century Change Congress. Özel used his social media account to share, "We are going to our Second Century Change Congress with our former party leaders Altan Öymen, Hikmet Çetin, and Murat Karayalçın."

KILIÇDAROĞLU DID NOT ATTEND

Video clips prepared on digital panels with the slogan "Every problem has a solution, the Republican People's Party" were displayed in the congress hall, while the seats of the participants were reserved with their names. It was observed that the protocol reserved a place for former CHP leaders Altan Öymen, Hikmet Çetin, Murat Karayalçın, and Özden Tokerve, the daughter of İsmet İnönü, the Second President of the Republic of Turkey, as well as Sevinç İnönü, the wife of former Deputy Prime Minister Erdal İnönü. Former CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was invited to the congress, did not attend.

NEARLY 20 ARTICLES TO BE CHANGED

Deputy Chairman Gökhan Zeybek was elected as the Chairman of the Congress. According to the work of the Statute Preparation Committee, changes are expected in nearly 20 articles of the CHP statute.

The agenda of the congress will continue with the establishment of the Congress Statute Committee, the establishment of the Program Committee, the discussion and voting on the report prepared by the committee regarding the amendment of the statute.

"WE WON BY LISTENING TO THE VOICE OF THE STREET"

In his opening speech at the congress, Özel conveyed the message, "We won the local elections by listening to the voice of the street." He announced that everyone, including the party leader, will participate in the primary elections.

Özel said the following; "For the first time in 47 years, we say hello to millions of people watching the congress of the country's leading party on screens. We are not few anymore, we are now more. It was exactly a year ago; after the elections we entered as a political alliance, which we wanted so much, worked so hard for, and deserved so much, unfortunately, we lost. After the elections on May 14th and 28th, there was a mood of detachment from politics and a wave of despair in society. The light in the eyes of the youth had gone out. The shoulders of our elders had slumped. While our elderly were asking, 'Will we not see power in Turkey?', the youth were asking us, 'Can't we dream in this country anymore? Can't we live in this country anymore?'

We sat down, talked, and debated. We set out together to open a new path, to take a new path. We could not and did not act as if nothing had happened. And we said this; CHP will change, Turkey will change. When all the democrats of Turkey embraced the party in its first elections, going towards this great victory hand in hand with conservatives, Kurds, nationalists, and social democrats, those who ran against the party due to personal ambitions should stay where they ran. These mistakes will not be made in this period, and they will never hold office in this party again, I state this clearly. In addition, in this great success, İmamoğlu, Yavaş, our mayors...

The statute belongs to our organization, not individuals. Kılıçdaroğlu's commitments are included in the statute. This statute is not a vote of confidence for me, its passage does not strengthen me, and its failure does not weaken me. I entrust the quotas for women and youth to you.

STATEMENTS FROM İMAMOĞLU AND YAVAŞ

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who attended the congress, commented, "Let it be a good congress, let's discuss the statute together. May it be beneficial for our party, the future of our party, and our democracy."

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş stated that the statute congress will be the first step of their party's march to power. The program of the CHP statute congress will continue with the Program Workshop, which will be organized within the framework of preparations for the new party program. During the workshop, program update works will be carried out at 20 round tables for 2 days.

The workshop will also address central and local government issues, as well as global developments. The committee of the Socialist International, which conducts discussions and policy work, will also participate in the workshop. The Ankara Declaration prepared by the Socialist International Committee will be voted on by the congress delegates at the closing of the congress.

On Monday, September 9th, which is the anniversary of the establishment of the CHP, a visit to Anıtkabir will be made. On the same day, visits will be made to the State Cemetery, Karşıyaka Cemetery, and Cebeci Cemetery. The opening of the "CHP History Exhibition" will be held at the Pink Villa. As part of the anniversary celebrations, Şevval Sam will give a concert in front of the CHP Headquarters.
