Crisis deepens in CHP! Kılıçdaroğlu will speak, Özel will press the button

29.05.2026 11:21

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who returned to the CHP General Chairmanship seat with the 'absolute nullity' decision of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice, is preparing to address party members tomorrow; while the Özgür Özel front, who was suspended from duty, is mobilizing delegates for an extraordinary congress.

The historic leadership crisis that began with a court decision in the Republican People's Party (CHP) has entered a new phase with reciprocal moves. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who has returned to the chairmanship following the decision of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice 36th Civil Chamber, will hold a show of force tomorrow, while the Özgür Özel wing is preparing to respond with an "extraordinary elective congress" threat.

KILIÇDAROĞLU WILL SPEAK AT THE HEADQUARTERS TOMORROW

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who returned to the headquarters after the court decision, will meet with party members at the CHP Headquarters tomorrow at 14:00. Kılıçdaroğlu's team has completed preparations for the organization ahead of this critical address. The following slogans stood out on the posters specially designed for the speech:

  • Clean politics, strong Republic
  • You are not alone, we are with you, Hero Kemal

ÖZGÜR ÖZEL FRONT DOES NOT GIVE UP

Özgür Özel and his team, who were suspended from duty by the court decision, have no intention of giving up. The Özel front, planning to start the extraordinary elective congress process after the holiday, relies on its power over the delegates. According to the CHP constitution, if a notarized majority of the total members of the congress is collected, the "election and vote of confidence" item can be added to the agenda.

"WE MAY NOT GET THE SIGNATURES OF 150 DELEGATES"

Senior sources in the Özel front, speaking to Milliyet, made a very assertive statement regarding delegate support: "When we start the process, perhaps we cannot get the signatures of 150 delegates out of the current 1100-plus delegates; apart from that, we will collect the signatures of all remaining delegates. We will sit down and talk again, and we will expose this process to all of Turkey."

EYES TURN TO AFTER THE HOLIDAY

While Kılıçdaroğlu's messages tomorrow are eagerly awaited, the "signature collection" process, where delegates will determine the fate of the CHP, is expected to become the main item on the political agenda right after the holiday.
