The death toll from last week's missile strike on a shopping mall in Ukraine's Kremenchuk city has risen to 19, the country's Internal Affairs Ministry said.
The mall was hit by two long-range X-22 missiles fired by Tu-22M3 bombers that flew from Shaykovka airfield in Russia's Kaluga region, according to Ukraine's air force.
"Overall, as a result of the rocket attack, 19 people were killed, 62 people were injured, and 26 of them were hospitalized," the Internal Affairs Ministry said on Twitter.
It said that rescuers found "six more body fragments at the site of the Amstor shopping mall," adding that a total of 28 body fragments have been found since the beginning of the rescue operation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had said that more than 1,000 civilians were inside the mall at the time of the attack.
Moreover, Zelenskyy on Tuesday asked the UN to send an envoy or a commission to investigate the site.
However, the Russian Defense Ministry said its strike on a weapons and ammunition warehouse prompted the fire at the mall, which it said was not operational.
More than 4,700 civilians have been killed in Ukraine since the war with Russia started on Feb. 24.
Over 14 million people have been forced to flee their homes, including more than 7.7 million that have fled to other countries, according to UN figures. -
