Millions of workers are eagerly awaiting the minimum wage to be announced for 2026. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which will hold meetings throughout December, is expected to announce the minimum wage determined for 2026 in the last days of the year.

GAVE A FIGURE FOR MINIMUM WAGE

During the group meeting of his party, Tuncer Bakırhan, Co-Chairman of the DEM Party, also gave a figure for the minimum wage for the first time.

"MUST BE UPDATED TWICE A YEAR"

Bakırhan stated, "The minimum wage for 2026 should be at least 46 thousand lira and should be updated twice a year according to inflation. It's all about favoring capital. The inflation that was said to 'decrease' for two years has started to rise again. Who pays the price? The workers," he said.

HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED?

The minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 members, with five representatives each from workers, employers, and the government, as required by law. The commission meets on the dates determined in December as part of the new minimum wage studies.

The commission, chaired by one of the members designated by the ministry, convenes with the participation of at least 10 members and makes decisions by majority vote. In the event of a tie, the majority of the side where the chairperson is located is accepted. In the last meeting, the commission is expected to determine the new minimum wage figure.
