In the meeting that Abdullah Öcalan had with the parliamentary delegation in Imralı, it was reported that he emphasized the need for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to integrate into the Syrian army and highlighted the importance of being a part of the "new Syria."
The details of the meeting between the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) delegation and the terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan have started to become clear. It has been learned that the visit of the delegation, consisting of representatives from the AK Party, MHP, and DEM Party, to İmralı Island was conducted with great secrecy and was planned in advance at all stages. After the meeting, the delegation met with TBMM President Numan Kurtulmuş on the same day to evaluate the discussions.
SECRET PREPARATION AND HELICOPTER FLIGHT TO İMRALI
The visit of the parliamentary delegation to İmralı was the subject of speculation throughout the day. It remained unclear for a while whether AK Party Deputy Chairman Hüseyin Yayman, MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız, and DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit went to the island. It was stated that the visit was kept secret from the public "for security reasons." Officials from the Ministry of Justice and MIT completed the technical preparations for the meeting with Öcalan over the weekend. On the morning of the meeting day, the delegation, composed of members of parliament, first went to Istanbul and then, accompanied by MIT officials, flew to İmralı by helicopter around 11:00 AM.
MEETING LASTING 2 HOURS AND 50 MINUTES
It was noted that officials from the Ministry of Justice arrived at İmralı Island before the members of parliament, and the delegation was welcomed by these officials. After a brief preparation, the parliamentarians met with Abdullah Öcalan in a hall organized by MIT. The meeting, which reportedly lasted approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes, was said to have been largely conducted in a question-and-answer format. During the meeting, both video recordings were made, and minutes were taken by MIT. The parliamentarians also recorded their own notes separately.
EVALUATION WITH NUMAN KURTULMUŞ ON THE RETURN
After the meeting, the delegation returned to Istanbul by helicopter and landed in the city around 4:00 PM. The delegation then met with TBMM President Numan Kurtulmuş. In this meeting, the topics that came up in İmralı, the framework of the written statement to be made by the TBMM Presidency, and the method of informing the commission to be established in the parliament were discussed.
ÖCALAN'S MESSAGE ON SDG AND SYRIA
Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi reported in his article today that Öcalan conveyed messages regarding the future of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDG). Selvi wrote that Öcalan wanted the SDG to integrate into the Syrian army and emphasized the importance of being a part of the "new Syria." The article also touched on the discussions about whether Öcalan's call on February 27 included the SDG, recalling that Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who was part of the İmralı delegation in the past, stated that this call also included the SDG. Nevertheless, it was claimed that the SDG did not take any steps despite the agreement made with the Damascus administration on March 10.
MINUTES TO BE DISCUSSED IN THE COMMISSION
According to information reported by Sabah regarding this important agenda item for Turkey, it is expected that the National Solidarity and Brotherhood Commission will receive a detailed briefing from the delegation and that the minutes will be shared with the commission. The option of sharing some of Öcalan's messages with the public is among the topics being considered.
