In Spain, doctors went on strike nationwide due to the failure to meet their demands in the new statute being worked on by the Ministry of Health, which regulates the working conditions of the national health system personnel.
Doctors on strike, called by the Confederation of Medical Associations of Spain (CESM), are demanding improvements in working hours, the elimination of injustices in professional classifications, and the calculation of on-call hours for retirement arrangements. In a statement from CESM, it was reported that during the strike, minimum services would be provided in the healthcare sector, staff would be present in hospitals at levels corresponding to weekends and holidays, and the continuity of care for patients requiring emergency intervention and treatment would be maintained.
PROTESTS WILL BE HELD IN MANY CITIES
Health Minister Monica Garcia stated that despite the strike, she continues to engage in dialogue with all unions, respects all demands, and is working on a text that will respond to the needs of professional healthcare workers. Doctors who will hold protests in major cities of Spain such as Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, Alicante, and Valladolid due to the strike will also demonstrate in front of the Parliament building. Doctors in Spain last went on strike 5 years ago.
