Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Alkış, the Rector of Şırnak University who has been criticized for allegedly appointing relatives to university positions, spoke to Haberler.com. Denying the statements attributed to him, such as "I did it out of my faith. It is my order; you should also visit and congratulate these colleagues immediately," Alkış said, "That post definitely does not belong to me." Rector Alkış also made explanations regarding the names mentioned as his relatives in the allegations.
Rector Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Alkış, who is at the center of merit debates at Şırnak University, made exclusive statements to Haberler.com.
SCANDALOUS WORDS SPARKED CONTROVERSY
Rector Alkış categorically denied the words attributed to him in the text, which read: "As your Rector who has won every struggle so far, I have regretfully learned that some impudent fools have been disturbed by my appointment of my beloved sister Halime's daughter, my dear niece Gülizar Artuç, as a faculty member at the Faculty of Theology; my transfer of my cousin Emrullah Alkıç from the Mufti's office to our university, promoting him to the position of Faculty Secretary and then to Deputy General Secretary; and my appointment of my confidant and close friend Mesut Bayra, a former teacher at the Ministry of National Education, as Director of the İdil Vocational School and Legal Advisor. Using my influence at the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the Presidential Office, I secured numerous staff allocations for our university each year. I dismissed all the unruly individuals after consulting with our YÖK President and Vice President. I have decided to appoint only those who have shown loyalty and commitment to their Rector to the positions we announced today in the Official Gazette. I will personally robe them. This is my order; you should visit and congratulate these colleagues in advance."
"YÖK IS FOLLOWING THESE ALLEGATIONS"
Abdurrahim Alkış said, "These are baseless news. They are all slander. YÖK is already following these allegations. Hundreds of false news have been published. My colleagues have collected all of them. As a result of investigations, their falsehood has been proven multiple times."
"THOSE WORDS ARE NOT MINE"
The rector, denying the scandalous post attributed to him by saying "It is definitely not mine," stated, "Is it possible for me to make such a statement in this position? The visuals associated with the shared text are not real."
"MY NIECE STARTED WORK THREE TERMS BEFORE ME"
Responding to our question about the names mentioned as "relative appointments" in the text, Rector Alkış said the following:
"Gülizar Ertuç is my niece; she started work three terms before me. There are five names I know at the university. Three started before me, and two after me. Only one of them is academic staff, the others are administrative staff. They completed their doctorates and came to their positions through inter-institutional transfers."
"THERE ARE PEOPLE SPREADING FALSE NEWS AT THE UNIVERSITY"
Emphasizing that he did not mediate the appointments of these individuals, Abdurrahim Alkış said, "There are institutions and laws in this country. Would they have gone unnoticed? If even one of them were true, I would have been dismissed. Everything undergoes strict scrutiny." Stating that there is currently no investigation against him, Alkış commented on the allegations on the agenda, saying, "There are people spreading false news at the university."
