As of January 1, 2026, an update to the special consumption tax (ÖTV) on fuel will come into effect. There will be an increase of 1.32 TL per liter for gasoline and 1.41 TL for diesel. In Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, diesel prices are expected to exceed the 55 TL mark, while no increase is currently anticipated for LPG.
The Special Consumption Tax (SCT) regulation made within the framework of combating inflation and budget balances will reflect as an increase in fuel prices starting from the first day of 2026. According to economist Cahit Saraçoğlu, the price boards at fuel stations will be updated from the morning of January 1.
INCREASE AMOUNTS FOR GASOLINE AND DIESEL CLARIFIED
With the SCT adjustment, it has been reported that the increase per liter will be 1.32 TL for gasoline and 1.41 TL for diesel. The regulation is expected to bring new levels, especially in diesel prices in metropolitan areas.
ESTIMATED NEW PRICES IN THREE METROPOLITAN CITIES
It is anticipated that the liter prices in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir will be reshaped with the SCT increase added to the current prices. Diesel prices are expected to exceed the 55 TL band in Ankara and Izmir, while it is predicted that prices in Istanbul will rise above the 54 TL level.
The estimated prices expected after the increase are as follows:
In the European side of Istanbul, gasoline is expected to rise to 53.14 TL, and diesel to 54.63 TL. In the Asian side of Istanbul, gasoline is expected to be 52.97 TL, and diesel 54.46 TL. In Ankara, gasoline is reported to potentially rise to 54.00 TL, and diesel to 55.65 TL. In Izmir, gasoline is expected to reach 54.33 TL, and diesel 55.99 TL.
NO INCREASE EXPECTED IN LPG FOR NOW
It is stated that the SCT update does not include an increase for the LPG (autogas) group, and therefore, it is anticipated that autogas prices will remain stable at the beginning of the year. The average autogas prices in Istanbul, which are currently at 28.51 TL, are expected to remain unchanged unless a contrary decision is made.
