EKREM TEYMUR: TRUMP ASSIGNED MUSK A TASK TO IMPLEMENT ROOT REFORMS
U.S. President Donald Trump made a swift start to his second presidential term by including the famous entrepreneur Elon Musk in his cabinet. Evaluating this remarkable development, Dr. Ekrem Teymur stated that Trump has tasked Musk with implementing root reforms in public administration.
"TRUMP AIMS TO APPLY PRIVATE SECTOR LOGIC IN GOVERNMENT MANAGEMENT"
Dr. Teymur emphasized that Trump is an extraordinary leader, stating, "Just as in his first presidential term, he started his second term with unexpected decisions. By bringing Elon Musk into his cabinet, he aims to apply private sector logic in government management."
A NEW MINISTRY FOR ELON MUSK: DEPARTMENT OF GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY (DOGE)
The Trump administration has established a new ministry headed by Musk: the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The mission of this new department will be to control government spending, eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy, and make public services more efficient. Dr. Teymur made the following statements regarding this:
"Elon Musk will examine public institutions one by one to identify unnecessary expenses. The government's budget is $6.75 trillion annually, and Musk believes that $2 trillion can be saved from this. He points out that public institutions are excessively bloated and inefficient. His goal is to reduce government spending while making public services faster and more effective."
TWITTER MODEL IS BEING ADAPTED TO PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION
Dr. Teymur recalled the radical changes Musk made after acquiring Twitter, stating that he wants to adapt a similar model to government management: "After acquiring Twitter, Musk reduced the company's workforce by 80%. Nevertheless, the platform continued to operate smoothly. Now he wants to implement a similar efficiency model in government institutions, particularly targeting unnecessary employment and inefficient working systems."
Dr. Teymur also highlighted Musk's plans to reduce the number of public employees: "There are large buildings in government offices, but no one is working inside them. Most civil servants work from home and are engaged in second and third jobs. Musk wants to completely change this structure."
TRUMP: I WILL CLOSE THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Dr. Teymur also conveyed Trump's criticisms regarding public spending: "In a press conference, Trump stated that despite the U.S. being a world leader in education spending, it ranks 40th in education quality, reacting by asking, 'How is this possible?' Immediately afterward, he announced that he would close the Department of Education. According to Trump, large budgets are spent on education, but quality does not improve. He wants to make government spending more efficient." Dr. Teymur noted that this decision will create a significant impact, but Trump will not back down.
WILL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SUPPORT THESE REFORMS?
Dr. Teymur mentioned that Congress might resist these reforms, but the American people would view the reduction of tax spending positively: "The American people want their taxes to be used efficiently. Therefore, any reform aimed at reducing government spending could receive broad support."
Additionally, Dr. Teymur added that similar reforms need to be implemented in Turkey: "Technology is rapidly developing in Turkey, everything is digitalizing, and artificial intelligence is facilitating many processes. Nevertheless, the number of civil servants is not decreasing; on the contrary, it is increasing. Public reforms are inevitable for the government to operate more efficiently. I think Turkey also needs an Elon Musk."
